Mahilow Authorities Ban Social Rally
Deputy chairperson of Mahilow city executive committee F. K. Mikheenka informed organizers of a social rally, it was impossible to consider their application for permission of the rally because of "absence of full data about its organizers, indicated in Art 5 of the Law on Meetings, street marches, rallies and pickets". Its organizers planned to hold the rally on March 6 in protest against growth of prices for utility services, low life standards, unemployment, and bad conditions for businesses.
The rally organizers – Siarhei Famin (Free Trade Union), Uladzimer Shantsaw (United Civic Party), and Ryhor Kastusiow (Belarusian Popular Front) – say the authorities have grossly violated the Constitution and claim the rally will take place anyway.
