FRANCYSK SKARYNA BELARUSIAN LANGUAGE SOCIETY APPEALS TO PUBLIC

Dear citizens of Belarus!

The Belarusian Language Society, which defends linguistic rights of people, stands for giving the Belarusian language the real status of the official state language, guards the national security of the country equally with the official structures, faces a real threat of liquidation.

Minsk Partyzanski borough administration terminated the 2004 lease agreement and did not propose any other office for rent instead. According to their decision, BLS will have to leave the premises on Rumiantsava Street before March 4, 2004. In this case the BLS will lose the legal address of its three organizations: the national BLS, its Minsk city organization, and Partyzanski borough organization. This may become the ground for liquidation of the organization.
We appeal to everybody, who is concerned about the fate of the Belarusian language. We urge you to express your protest to the authorities, head of Minsk city executive committee Mikhail Pawlaw, in the first place, against ungrounded eviction of an organization, important for existence of the independent Belarusian state.
