Ex-chief editor of The Rabochy newspaper Viktar Ivashkevich serving a forced labor sentence in Baranavichy for insult of the President was denied grant on parole.
It was the administration of Baranavichy open-type prison, where Ivashkevich is serving his sentence, who initiated the grant on parole for the journalist. They filed all the documents to Brest regional Penitentiary Committee in the beginning of October. The prison administration grounded the decision on Ivashkevich’s good behavior and absence of reprimands from the administration. However, the Brest authorities found the release on parole “inexpedient”.
Because of the general amnesty of this year, Ivashkevich’s term was reduced by 1 year. He will get his liberty on December 16.
