Uladzimir Kudrawtsaw is going to publish new local newspaper “Ulasny Kamentar” (Personal Comment). Krychaw authorities refused to permit him locate the newspaper office in their district. Kudrawtsaw filed a complaint to court.
On October 2, 2003 Mahilow regional court Judge Nadzeya Padchyshchalava held the hearing behind closed doors. She claimed, she did not need observers during the hearing.
As the result of 2-hour hearing, the judge decided to leave Kudrawtsaw’s complaint without consideration. She explained he had not followed all pre-trial procedures. The district authorities have refused the newspaper founder twice. However, this is the first time he appealed against their decision.
After the hearing Kudrawtsaw told RFE/RL reporter, “We will certainly continue to fight for the victory. We have only one paper in Krychaw – The Leninski Klich (The Lenin Appeal). We need to arouse the Soviet people, brain-washed by the communist propaganda”.
Kudrawtsaw plans to follow all pre-trial procedures (taking him about 1,5 months) and file a new complaint to the court.
