“Viasna” Applies to Authorities to Defend Belarusian Humanitarian Lyceum
Human Rights Center “Viasna” applied to the Minister of Education and the Head of the Soviet of Ministers of Belarus, urging them to use all the possible measures for saving Belarusian State Humanitarian Lyceum. The human rights activists apply to their colleagues and all people who are concerned with the fate of the only Belarusian-language educational establishment, to join to the campaign for protection of the lyceum.

The public association “Human Rights Center “Viasna” considers the measures of the duty officials of the Ministry of Education and the Soviet of Ministers of Belarus on destruction of Belarusian State Humanitarian Lyceum as a violation of the constitutional right of pupils to receive education in their native language and prohibition to profession for certain teachers.
The only establishment with Belarusian education where the system of education meets European education standards can be destroyed. The tight pedagogical collective with well-known Belarusian scientists among its members is being destroyed. Besides, we have to point at political persecution of some teachers for political reasons, such as the lyceum Head Uladzimir Kolas.
The attempts of the pedagogical collective, pupils and their parents to defend their legal right face with reluctance of the State bodies who can solve the problem, to listen to their view. Force measures were used against pupils as well – special police forces were opposed to them.
Public Association “Human Rights Center “Viasna” applies to you with the request to use all the possible measures for saving of Belarusian State Humanitarian Lyceum with taking into consideration demands of the pedagogical collective, pupils and their parents, and not to let usage of force against children.
Human Rights Center “Viasna” applies to colleagues, human rights activists, both Belarusian and foreign ones, and to all people who are concerned with the fate of the only Belarusian language educational establishment, to joint to the campaign for protection of the lyceum.
