SIARHEI SALASH CHARGED WITH ORGANIZATION OF UNAUTHORIZED PICKET IN BARYSAW

On 3 April in Barysaw an event, organized in the frames of the “Let’s Make It Better” campaign of the Assembly of Democratic Non-Governmental Organizations, was supposed to take place. It was planned Barysaw residents would meet the city administration and the members of the city council to discuss the problems, which exist in the city. The meeting was supposed to take place in the Officers’ House of Barysaw. The meeting gathered about 150 Barysaw residents. However, representatives of neither executive, nor representative power came to the meeting. The people gathered near the building and decided to create a Committee for Civic Self-Governance. Siarzhuk Salash, one of the coordinators of the “Let’s Make It Better” campaign, was elected chairperson of the Committee. The police officers did not like such activism. They charged Salash with organization of the unauthorized picket under Art 167-1 part 2 of the Code of Administrative Offences. Any moment Siarzhuk Salash can be called to court and sentenced to 10 to 15 days of jail.
