In the morning of 17 March Professor Yury Khadyka was detained near his house and taken to Savetski borough police station. Khadyka was arrested for participation in social action of protest People’s March “For a Better Life!”

Head of Belarusian Popular Front Party Vintsuk Viachorka stated: “The authorities are deathly afraid of any display of civic activity and tries to paralyze it with repression against Belarusian political leaders. They arrested Khadyka trying to decrease the scale of the protest action against the surrender of Belarus’ independence. The action, which will take place on 25 March. We demand release of Professor Yury Khadyka and inform the international community that the situation with civic freedoms and human rights is deteriorating”.
