NEW CRIMINAL CHARGE FOR LIBEL

Centralny borough prosecutor's office initiated a criminal case against Aksana Novikava, 29. Aksana is charged under Art. 367 of the Criminal Code (Libeling the president of the Republic of Belarus). Aksana Novikava had to give a written undertaking not leave the country.
Private entrepreneur Aksana Novikava was detained in Minsk in the morning of 17 October for spreading leaflets near Kastrychnitskaya Square. The criminal charge says: "On 17 October Aksana Novikava spread leaflets, which contain libel against the President of the Republic of Belarus, combined with accusation of grave crime".
Aksana Novikava faces restriction of freedom or imprisonment for up to 5 years.
