EVERYBODY SHOULD KNOW THEIR RIGHTS HUMAN RIGHTS CENTER "VIASNA" PUBLISHES BROCHURE ON DEFENSE OF ONE'S RIGHTS IN CRIMINAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE TRIALS
Being aware of one's rights is necessary for every person. Belarusian schools only recently have started teaching a special course on human rights. Middle-aged people, who don't have a diploma in law, unfortunately, don't have enough knowledge in this sphere. That is why NGOs need to participate in educational projects, which deal with human rights and law.
Human Rights Center "Viasna" has prepared a brochure, which generalizes the organization's experience in defense of citizens facing criminal and administrative charges.
The authors tried to approach the issue from the standpoint of human rights protection of citizens, who often feel defenseless under the repressive machine of the official bodies.
The brochure contains information, which will be especially useful for activists of non-governmental; organizations and political parties, who often experience illegal actions from the police and other official bodies.
The authors proceeded from the assumption, that every person is able to defend him or herself, they just need to be aware of their rights.
