SENTENCE TO RABOCHY EDITOR CONFIRMED

On 15 October Minsk city court ruled to confirm the judgement, made by Pershamaiski borough court of Minsk to Rabochy editor Viktar Ivashkevich. The court turned down the cassation complaint made by Ivashkevich's advocate Tatsiana Stankevich. The court session lasted no more than 30 minutes. Neither Ivashkevich nor his advocate expected the judgement would be cancelled. However, Ivashkevich hoped that the term of his sentence would be shortened under the Law on Amnesty. (In the similar case of Pahonia journalists the higher court ruled to cut down the term of forced labor by one year). In Ivashkevich's case the judges decided to leave the decision to administration of the forced labor institution.
