Lawyer Ihar Aksionchyk represented the mother of the missing ORT cameraman Dzmitry Zavadski. On 11 September he was sentenced to 1,5 years of imprisonment. The sentence is suspended for 2 years.
Leninski borough court of Minsk judge Valantsina Kryvaya concluded, that lawyer Ihar Aksionchyk is guilty of libeling General Prosecutor Viktar Sheiman. Let us remind you, that the lawyer voiced his opinion, that Viktar Sheiman is linked to disappearances of well-known people in Belarus.
The trial was closed for public. In Belarus it is the first case of criminal persecution of a lawyer for expressing his point of view about a case, in which he participated as a representative of the aggrieved party.
