ANOTHER LIBEL CASE. PROSECUTOR GENERAL AGAINST ADVOCATE
On 8 October Leninski borough court opened a hearing on criminal case of lawyer Yury Aksionchyk. He is charged with libeling Prosecutor General Viktar Sheiman.
Yury Aksionchyk represented Volha Zavadskaya, the mother of the missing ORT cameraman Dzmitry Zavadski, in the court hearing of his case. When the court made its judgement Aksionchyk said in his interview to Russian mass media, that Viktar Sheiman, who had headed the Security Council at the time of Zavadski's disappearance, was linked to kidnapping Zavadski. After the interview, Aksionchyk spent several months abroad and was fired from Advocates' Board.
On 8 October Yury Aksionchyk submitted an application to summon Volha Zavadskaya as a witness. The judge refused his application, because Zavadskaya had made a signed statement not to disclose the investigation materials.
