On October 5 Uladzimir Salauiou, activist of PA HRC “Viasna”, attended the Parliamentary elections in Latvia as an international observer with accreditation at Central Electoral Committee.

Here are his impressions about the elections: “At the Parliamentary elections in Latvia the electoral process is very rationally organized. There is almost no possibility of falsification. Commissions consist of representatives of different parties and public organizations”, -- says activist of PA HRC “Viasna.

The elections lasted for one day, without any early votes, the polling stations were opened from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. There is no possibility of voting in advance. However, the electors who live abroad can vote by post. The system is proportional – a certain number of deputies are elected from each electoral point, all of the elected deputies make 100%. Registered parties or coalitions can submit to Seym Lists of candidates, proportionally to the number of electors. Each Latvian citizen who is more than 21 years old can be a candidate for deputy’s position, if he is not subject to restrictions of the law “About elections to Seym.”
