"Flight" – animation about death penalty in Belarus (video)
The
animation film, created by talented volunteers of the campaign "Human
Rights Defenders against Death Penalty", dwells on the topic of
the cruelty and inhumanity of the death penalty in Belarus. Our
country is the last one in Europe and on the post-Soviet space where
the death penalty is still used.
Numerous events and actions
are held within the campaign "Human Rights Defenders against the
Death Penalty" with the aim to inform the society about the
problem of the death penalty. The Human Rights Center "Viasna"
and the campaign activists created several documentaries on this
painful issue. The film "Departed on sentence" tells about
the people who conduct the executions on behalf of the state. Aleh
Alkayeu, a former head of the pre-trial prison #1 in Minsk, author of
the book "Shooting Crew", who personally participated in
the execution of 134 death sentences, tells about the emotions of the
executors.
This film was also preceded by the films "Cause
of Death ________" and "Extreme Penalty".
The
campaign "Human Rights Defenders against Death Penalty" was
launched in Belarus in 2009 with the aim to strive for the
abolishment of the death penalty in Belarus and accession of Belarus
to the common European values.
