Belarusian Association of Journalists proposes round-table discussion to MIA
BAJ sent a letter to the Minister of Home Affairs Anatol Kuliashou,
asking to arrange a meeting between law enforcement representatives and
journalists todiscuss the problem of “relations between journalists and police,
the police “information group” activities, the need to single out from the
crowd mass media representatives when covering street protests etc.
The organization reminds that the agreement to hold the meeting had been made
in July 2011. The round-talk discussion was also suggested in reply to BAJ
statement on journalists' safety on 5 July 2011.
BAJ mentioned Ukraine as an example, when Ukrainian Minister of Home Affairs Vitaliy Zakharchenko
conducted a number of meetings with mass media representatives. As a result, he
addressed law enforcement agencies, encouraging them not to thwart journalists“
activities, and even more – boost their work, since mass media collect
important information which must be disseminated to the public”.
