23.07.2014 UCP activist in Hrodna submits complaint to UN Human Rights Committee
On July 22, Yezhy Hryhencha, Chairman of the Hrodna city office of the United Civil Party, sent a complaint to the UN Human Rights Committee. The activist believes that his right to peaceful assembly violated by a decision of the Leninski District Court of Hrodna, whose Judge Alena Piatrova fined him for active participation in a mass event.

26.06.2014 Consideration of Belarus’ report by UN Human Rights Committee scheduled for March 2015
A periodic report of Belarus on the human rights situation in the country was to be presented to the UN Human Rights Committee on November 7, 2001, but was eventually submitted with a 10-year delay on December 15, 2011. The country’s latest periodic report was considered back in 1997, therefore, the report highlights issues of compliance with the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights in Belarus for the period from November 1997 to March 2015. The report has been prepared and submitted in accordance with Article 40 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
25.06.2014 UN Human Rights Committee registers another complaint from Belarus
The UN Human Rights Committee has registered a complaint by a resident of the village of Buyany, Vitsebsk region, Leanid Zdrestau. The activist had to appeal to the international body for protection after the authorities did not authorize his picket, and all the courts where he was trying to appeal the ban, from the Kastrychnitski District Court of Vitsebsk to the Supreme Court of the Republic of Belarus – sided with the authorities.

21.05.2014 UN Human Rights Committee rules against government in Zhlobin oppositionist’s case
On March 28, the UN Human Rights Committee said that the Belarusian authorities violated the right of a member of the Zhlobin office of the Belarusian Left Party “Fair World” Uladzimir Kirsanau to freedom of peaceful assembly by prohibiting him in 2008 to hold a picket in Zhlobin in order to attract public attention to problems faced by the country’s political parties and public associations.
