The Frunzienski District Court of Minsk sentenced today Illia Tananka, a 19-year-old student at Minsk State Linguistic University, to 18 months of imprisonment for allegedly publicly insulting Dzmitry Balaba, commanding officer of OMON, a special police unit known for its involvement in acts of violence against peaceful protesters.

25.11.2020 Amnesty International: Whistle-blower doctor and journalist who exposed disinformation are prisoners of conscience
The authorities in Belarus have arrested and opened criminal proceedings against medical doctor Artsyom Sarokin and journalist Katsyaryna Barysevich who published information about the recent death of a peaceful protester, and exposed what appears to be an official cover-up of his killing. They are both prisoners of conscience, detained solely for the exercise of their right to freedom of expression, and must be immediately and unconditionally released and the criminal proceedings against them ended.

Mikalai Dziadok, blogger and journalist of the Novy Chas weekly, who describes himself as an anarchist, was arrested on November 12 near the city of Salihorsk, 120 km south of Minsk. A video released by the Interior Ministry the following day shows the humiliated and beaten activist confessing to “plotting to overthrow the government.”
