08.07.2008 Hrodna: police pressurize opposition’s delegates to electoral commissions

On 8 July the police paid a visit to the resident of the village of Varniany (Astravets district) Mikalai Ulasevich, who has been nominated as a representative to Iuie district electoral commission #53 by the United Civil Party. The policemen asked him where he was during the blast which had taken place in Minsk, at the celebration of the official Independence Day. Ulasevich was not in Minsk during the tragedy.

02.07.2008 More ‘Young Front’ members get arrested

The activist of the Young Front from Baranavichy Zmitser Stankevich was detained in the center of the city, near Lenin Square, while he was handing out leaflets with information about the political prisoner Andrei Kim. A violation report was drawn up on Stankevich. He was accused of petty hooliganism. On 1 June the activist was tried by court and sentenced to 10 days of arrest.

02.07.2008 Democratic activist Katsiaryna Manchuk is expelled from Mazyr State University

The girl was called to talks in the dean’s office and was asked to stop her public activity. But the administration of the university insists the girl had been expelled due to her bad results at the examination period, RFE/RL reports.
