10.12.2008 Hrodna: detention of journalist Ivan Roman

On 10 December in Hrodna the police detained independent journalist Ivan Roman and guarded him to Leninski district police department. The detention took place while he was implementing his professional duties at an action of the local human rights activists, dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The journalist showed to the policemen his badge, but it did not stop them.

Activists of For Freedom movement Yury Bakur and Andrei Sharenda have been detained in Brest. They hanged out a white-red-white flag on the building of Brest State pedagogical University, to mark the Human Rights Day. The huge white-red-white flag was attached to the flagpole of the Brest State pedagogical University.

05.11.2008 No ‘extremism’ in ‘Svaboda’?

On 5 November Hrodna oblast court considered the cassation complaint against the verdict of Iuye district court by which an August issue of the Svaboda newspaper had been declared extremist. The judge Alexander Sitsko ruled to return the case to Iuye district court for review.
