Baranavichy: Statkevich-senior congratulated on Teacher's Day

October 3, Baranavichy social and human rights activists visited and congratulated Viktar Statkevich (father of the political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich) who worked for 35 years as a history teacher, on his professional holiday. Despite poor health, Statkevich -senior hospitably and friendly received the visitors in his apartment.

“We discussed the current situation of teachers and spoke a lot about the problems of education in Belarus. Viktar Statkevich hasn't worked at school for more than 20 years already, but he is well aware that teachers now have fewer rights than in his time. He keeps in touch with former colleagues and is convinced that young people do not want to work at schools not only because teachers are poorly paid for their work, but above all because there is no freedom there, like in the whole country, “commented social activist Viktar Syrytsa.

The guests also talked with Mr. Statkevich about the mail correspondence with his son, the events in the Ukraine and the recent threats of unidentified persons to Viktar Statkevich and his family. At the departure, they wished him a strong health, hope grace from God, and the company of good people.
