Brest: appeal against actions of the local authorities filed to the Government
An activist of the
civil campaign "Tell the truth!" Ihar
Maslouski sent an
appeal to the complaint to the Council of
Ministers concerning the inaction
of the authorities of Brest , who ignored a
collective appeal signed by more than 1,100 people.
The
signatures were collected as part of the
initiative called "One Thousand and One Pit"
that aimed to achieve the repair of roads and improvement
of the landscape in the suburb Paudniovy. As stated by Mr. Maslouski,
what concerns the repairs of the roads in
Rokossovsky and Zhukov Streets, the applicants
have no comments: the works continue”. However, in their letter to
the authorities the dwellers of the suburb pay attention to the fact
that there are no sidewalks in the part of the road which unites
these streets, which presents danger to the pedestrian movement, when
people have to walk in the busy roadway, where
there are a lot of
cars. The residents are particularly concerned
with the fact that next to the busy highway there is a gymnasium, and
this part of the road is a factor of increased risk for the health
and life of its pupils.
As it follows from the recevied
responce of the Brest City Executive
Committee, making a sidewalk there is
“impractical”. This thought is shared by the Brest Regional
Executive Committee, to which the citizens applied after receiving
such answer from the city executive committee. According
to Mr. Maslouski, such approach is very
surprising: “About one kilometer of the sidewalk has been already
made on the both sides of the area in question – only about 200
meters remain. It is difficult to understand the logic and the
professional approach to the design and construction of transport
infrastructure in the city."
Haven't
received a positive answer to their proposals the initiators of the
address applied to the Council of Ministers, in which they state
about the violation of Article 9 of the Law of the Republic of
Belarus “On applications of citizens and legal bodies” by the
Brest authorities, i.e. a complete, objective and all-sided
consideration of the appeal. The appeal contains the request to the
government to order the liquidation of the reasons which hinder the
construction of the sidewalk between Rokossovsky
and Zhukov Streets for the
safe movement of pedestrians.
