Hrodna human rights defenders get summonsed to court
Hrodna
human rights defenders Uladzimir Khilmanovich and Viktar Sazonau
received summons to the Leninski District Court of Hrodna. Most
probably, this is a reaction to the appeal against actions of the
Hrodna City Executive Committee, filed by them and one more human
rights defender, Raman Yurhel.
The appeal was filed on 30
August as a reaction to the official response of the executive
committee of 1 August, by which the activists were banned to hold an
informational picket in support of the political prisoner Ales
Bialiatski. The applicants believe that the Hrodna City Executive
Committee violated their constitutional rights and the Law of the
Republic of Belarus “On Mass Media”.
By the way, the
summons to the court, issued by the court secretary, contain
inaccuracies – it is not indicated on which case the citizens are
summonsed and in which capacity. Even the surname of the secretary is
absent in this document. The writ was issued for 3.30 p.m. on 12
September.
