Andrei Haidukou got transferred to Mahiliou penal colony
Andrei Haidukou, a 23-year-old social
activist, worker of the Navapolatsk oil-processing plant “Naftan”,
punished with 1.5 years of imprisonment, has been transferred from
the Vitsebsk remand prison to the Mahiliou penal colony No. 19.
According to his sister Maryia, his relatives found about
while bringing a parcel for him to the remand prison.
“Our
Vitsebsk relatives went there to pass the parcel and were told that
he had been transferred to Mahiliou. We haven't received any official
information yet. We thought he would be kept in Vitsebsk for a little
while longer, but it appeared that he has been very swiftly
transferred to Mahiliou.
Andrei Haidukou was
found guilty of attempting to establish cooperation with the CIA. On
28 August the
Supreme Court of Belarus upheld the verdict in
its appeal. On 27 August the Supreme Court of the Republic of Belarus
considered his appeal and left the verdict unchanged. Though the both
trials were held behind the closed doors, some of the case materials
were published in the state-owned press.
According to the
human rights defenders, they proved rather the absence of corpus
delicti in his actions than his guilt.
