Brest: lawsuit filed against city executive committee
The
local coordinator of the movement “For Freedom!” Dzianis
Turchaniak appeals the actions of the authorities which concern
construction works on the territory which is protected by the state.
In the
lawsuit, filed to the Leninski District Court of Brest, it is stated
that the city executive committee violated the legislation by
permitting to build a car bridge over the bypass channel of the
Kobryn bastion of the Brest fortress which is a nature conservation
object. This is the channel which is being dug near the main entrance
to the memorial complex.
Earlier Dzianis Turchaniak and the
head of the Belarusian Society for the Protection of Monuments of
History and Culture Anton Astapovich tried to appeal the actions of
the city authorities at the Brest Regional Executive Committee.
However, the appeal was not granted, that's why it was decided to
apply to court.
As it is stated in the lawsuit, the
authorities violated the ruling of the Belarusian government about
the order of holding public discussions in the sphere of building,
architectural and construction activities, as far as there was no
public discussions. Moreover, the state examination of the building
project was conducted without such discussion, which is also a law
violation. Thus, Brest residents were deprived of the opportunity to
express their attitude to this project.
