Minsk City Court doesn't grant Uladzimir Labkovich's appeal
Minsk
City Court dismissed the cassation appeal
of the human rights activist Uladzimir
Labkovich against
the fine of 3 million rubles, imposed on him by the Savetski District
Court of Minsk. his conviction by a court
of the Soviet district of Minsk 3,000,000 rubles fine.
In
their appeals the members of the Human Rights Center “Viasna”
Uladzimir Labkovich and Tatsiana Reviaka tried to prove that the Law
“On Mass Events” contradicts the Constitution and restricts the
rights established in the International Covenant on Civil and
Political Rights.
The court didn't grant the appeal of
Tatsiana Reviaka on 27 August. A similar decision was taken
concerning Uladzimir Labkovich. The rulings for the punishment of the
human rights defenders were left in force.
Bear in mind that
on 5 August Uladzimir Labkovich and Tatsiana Reviaka handed out
postcards with the portrait of the imprisoned head of the Human
Rights Center “Viasna” Ales Bialiatski on 5 August. In 20 minutes
they were fined and taken to the Savetski District Police Department.
On 6 August the human rights defenders were fined 3 million rubles
each for violating the order of the organization and holding of the
mass event.
