Homel opposition activists summoned by police over Freedom Day rally
Vasil Paliakou, deputy chairman of the United Civil Party, received last evening a summons to appear in the police department of Homel’s Navabelitski district “for administrative procedures”.
According to human rights defender Leanid Sudalenka, the same summons was received by another local pro-democratic activist Uladzimir Shytsikau. “Perhaps, the authorities have decided to prosecute under administrative proceedings the most active participants of the Freedom Day rally held in Homel on March 25,” says the human rights defender.
On March 25, activists of the Homel coalition of pro-democratic organizations visited the tomb of Tsimokh Vostrykau, prominent figure of the national revival, in the village of Ramanavichy, and laid flowers at the spot of the former house of another leader of the Belarusian People’s Republic Paluta Badunova (in Navabelitski district near Homel).
