Human rights defenders call to sign the petition for the construction of a new polyclinic in Salihorsk
The Salihorsk human rights defenders
have joined the campaign to protect the right to accessible medical
assistance.
Bear in mind that last weak democratic activists
started an informational campaign for the construction of a new
polyclinic in Salihorsk. The local human rights defenders have
started collecting signatures under an appropriate petition at the
website change.org.
“We pay more attention to civil and
social rights in our activities, but decided not to stay aside from
an issue connected with social rights this time,” says a
representative of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee Leanid Markhotka.
“In fact, due to the absence of one more polyclinic the right of
Salihorsk dwellers to medical assistance is violated. The long
nighttime queues for getting an appointment with a medic seem to be a
real torture for many ill and often elderly people.”
Another
BHC member, Aliaksei Valabuyeu, speaks about the chosen means of
struggle for the rights of the Salihorsk dwellers: “The world moves
forward, and we must keep up with it. This form of influence on the
authorities seems quite effective to us. The demand of each signer of
the petition will be automatically forwarded to the e-mail accounts
of the officials who are responsible for the solution of the issues.
The petition can be signed during the next two months. All this time
the authorities will receive reminders about the necessity to secure
the right of Salihorskers to health care by construction of a new
polyclinic.”
The human rights defenders intend to file to
the Salihorsk City Executive Committee, the Ministry of Health Care
and the Chamber of Representatives 250 signatures. The petition is
open to signing by anyone and is accessible as Petition
in support of the construction of a new polyclinic in Salihorsk.
