Appeal of political prisoner Vasil Parfiankou to be considered 27 July
This May the Pershamaiski District Court of Minsk
sentenced Mr. Parfiankou to six months of arrest for an alleged violation of
the regime of prophylactic supervision.
“I have appealed this verdict, but I don't expect anything good, the more that
the procuracy has appealed the verdict as well, stating that I have received an
unduly light punishment,” said Vasil Parfiankou to an RFE/RL journalist.
Vasil Parfiankou, a defender of the Kurapaty burial ground, was sentenced to 4
years of imprisonment for participation in the peaceful post-election protests
of 19 December 2010. Later he was pardoned by a presidential decree. However,
prophylactic supervision was imposed on Mr. Parfiankou for participation in
actions of solidarity with political prisoners.
Prophylactic supervision is also used towards ex-political prisoners Pavel
Vinahradau and Uladz Yaromenak. On 21 June Mr. Vinahradau started serving a
15-day administrative arrest term at the detention facility in Akrestsin Street in
Minsk.
