Alena, Siarhei Kavalenka’s wife, describes her husband’s condition as “alarming”.

She was allowed a meeting with Siargey in the Vitsba reformatory on 5 April, BelaPAN reports.

“Siarhei is looking very bad. He is forced to stop his hunger-strike and his condition is alarming. He is still getting droppers with vitamins, amino acids and physical solution. He came to meet me with some droppers in his nose,” Alena Kavalenka pointed out.

Alena was told that Siarhei gets porridge and mashed potato through a stomach pump. “In the beginning, when they only started to force-feed him, he was half-conscious. Once he fainted, and when he regained consciousness he discovered he was tied to the bed. He wasn’t untied until three days and three nights after that. He wasn’t even allowed to go to the bathroom. Moreover, Siarhei got a cold, he doesn’t stop coughing with blood, which is an ulcer symptom,” Alena Kavalenka said.

She also said that Siarhei’s kidneys, liver and pancreas hardly function. “And when he is in such a condition, they won’t let him go to the bathroom – this is simply a murder,” Alena Kavalenka believes.

She added that the transfer of the activist to a regular hospital is still out of question. “At the moment there are very few chances to save Siarhei,” Alena Kavalenka emphasized.
