Procuracy states Tatsiana Seviarynets has no right to initiate check-up of tuberculosis hospital
Tatsiana Seviarynets, coordinator of the
steering committee of the Belarusian Christian Democracy Party, applied to the
Vitsebsk Regional Procuracy with the request to hold a check-up at the Vitsebsk
regional tuberculosis hospital in the town of Bahusheusk. In particular, she asked to find about
the legal reasons for keeping Valery Hancharenka, an adherent of the BCD, in
the psychiatric department.
However, in the official letter signed by procuracy's officer A.Kazlova, it is
stated that Tatsiana Seviarynets has no right to ask for the prosecutorial
check-up as far as she is not Hancharenka's guardian and he hasn't given her
the power of attorney.
“It means that a citizen cannot appeal to the procuracy when seeing a violation
if he/she is not the victim's relatives,” commented Mrs. Seviarynets.
Bear in mind that Valery Hancharenka was placed in the psychiatric department of the hospital (where he receives regular injections of psychiatric drugs) after spreading information about the unbearable conditions in which patients are kept in the hospital. Tatsiana Seviarynets is not going to give up her attempts. Soon she will also file an appeal with the Vitsebsk Region Health Care Bureau.
