Brest: trial on extremism
On 10 October the Brest District Court starts proceedings to
recognize as extremist the book “Special Opinion, or Christian's Address”.
The criminal case was initiated by KGB chairman, general-lieutenant Vadzim
Zaitsau, and was passed to the court by the Brest Region Procuracy.
The book's author, Alena Hnauk, published it at her own expense about six
months ago, in a circulation of 200 copies. She sent copies of the book to all
ministries, law-enforcement organs, the Supreme court, the General Procuracy
and the Presidential Administration.
In this book she proposes an alternative way of development of the Belarusian
society on the basis of reconciliation between the president and the Belarusian
people by means of passing the power to a non-elected leader who would satisfy
the both sides.
