Brest: Vadzim Rabtsevich gets fined
The Leninski District Court of Brest sentenced Vadzim
Rabtsevich, member of the Belarusian Leftist Party “Fair World”, to pay a fine
of 70,000 rubles (less than $10) for alleged violation of Article 23.34, part 1
of the Code of Administrative Offenses (“violation of the order of organizing
or holding mass events”).
The matter is that the activist had posted leaflets with invitations to the
People's Assembly, for which he was detained on 6 October and had been kept in
the Leninski District Police Department of Brest till the trial.
The Brest Region Procuracy also issued a warning to Uladzimir Vuyek, acting
chairman of the Brest region organization of the United Civil Party, a member
of the organizing committee of the People's Assembly. In response, the activist
wrote a paper to express his disagreement with the warning, which concerned the
People's Assembly in Brest, and stated that the assembly was organized in
conformity with the Law “On National and Local Assemblies”.
