Minsk City Court turns down Alena Likhavid's appeal

The Minsk City Court left standing the verdict to Alena Likhavid, mother of political prisoner Mikita Likhavid. The woman had been sentenced to 10 days of arrest by Judge Vaitekhovich from the Tsentralny District Court of Minsk for participation in the silent protest action held on 20 July in Minsk. She was kept in a single cell during the 3 last days of her arrest.

Alena Likhavid intends to appeal the verdict of the Minsk City Court at a higher court instance. On 7 September she also filed a complaint with the procuracy and the Ministry of Internal Affairs concerning the incarceration conditions in the delinquents' isolation center in Akrestsin Street. “I complaint about violations of the sanitary norms and humiliating attitude towards prisoners,” said Alena Likhavid.
