Foreign diplomats express support to Viasna
On 5 August Michael Scanlan, Chargé d'Affaires ad
interim of the United States
in Belarus, and Christopher
Panico, First Secretary of The U.S. Embassy in Minsk,
visited Minsk
office of the Human Rights Center Viasna in
connection with the arrest of Ales Bialiatski.
On 8 August, Rosemary Thomas, Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain
and Northern Ireland, paid a visit to the office as well.
The diplomats expressed their support to Viasna
staff and Ales’s family, as well as a high appreciation of the role of the
Human Rights Center in the Belarusian society.
They are seriously concerned with the outrageous arrest of the world-known
human rights defender, Chair of the Human Rights Center Viasna Ales Bialiatski, and the increase of the pressurization of
the human rights movement in Belarus.
