Brest: intimidation and arrests, too
Brest police warned the mother of a civil activist
Siarhei Aleksievich about the inadmissibility of his participation in the
silent protest action. Two policemen came to the Aleksievichs' apartment at
about 12.30 a.m. on 1 July. One of them was in uniform, the other – in plain
clothes.
At first they invited the 16-year-old guy to come with them, for a
“prophylactic talk”, allegedly connected with the fact of his detention with
beer a year ago. When he refused to do it, the police advised the parents not
to let him go to the protest action on 3 July.
By the way, on 23 June Aleksievich was summonsed to the Brest Region Procuracy
and presented an official warning about “inadmissibility of violations of the
law”. The reason was that, according to information of the KGB, he was an
administrator of a group in the social network VKontakte, which
allegedly called to a state overturn.
On 1 July the police also detained the democratic activists Artur Anisimau and
Ivan Stasiuk. According to information of the human rights defender Raman
Kisliak, both of them were detained at about 8 p.m. in Haurylau Street by people in civvies.
Stasiuk's mother was informed about the detention by an acquaintance, who saw
it with his own eyes.
The woman applied to the police concerning the forced disappearance of her son,
after which she was informed that he was kept in the Leninski District Police
Department of Brest on charges in “disorderly conduct”.
