Babruisk: journalist Anatol Sanatsenka tells about pressurization by procuracy
Anatol Sanatsenka,
editor of the electronic socio-political newspaper Babruiski Kur’yer, made a statement concerning pressurization
exercised by the procuracy:
“On 14 April the Deputy Prosecutor of the Leninski District of Babruisk, Anatol
Kabernik, phoned me in order to invite me for a “talk”. I immediately told him
that I wouldn’t go anywhere without an official writ. He proposed to bring it
to me personally, to which I agreed. However, he brought some official paper
instead of a writ. As far as he had no writ, I refused to sign the paper, and
he registered it in a document.”
Mr. Sanatsenka also published an official statement on the matter in the Babruiski Kur’yer:
Babruiski
Kur’yer states…
Judging by media information and personal experience, these days the procuracy
of the Republic of Belarus is trying to suppress the legal rights and interests
of journalists, demanding that they stop distributing some information, refuse
from discussing certain topics and refrain from expressing their opinion on the
events that take place in the Belarusian society.
Such demand is a gross violation of the present legislation and falls under
provisions of Article 198 of the Criminal Code Hindrance to legal professional activities of a journalist.
