On 13 April rrepresentatives of the democratic forces of Babruisk began collecting signatures under the appeal to President Aliaksandr Lukashenka requiring to stop building the nuclear power plant in Belarus and to restrict the access to all types of radioactive substances into the territory of our country.

Alena Miadzvedzeva, a coordinator of the Speak Truth! civil campaign, tells about the anti-nuclear ininitiative of the Babruisk democrats:

“The branches of all political parties who are members of the Council of Democratic Forces of the Babruisk district will take part in the collection of signatures under the petition to terminate the construction of the NPP. It is our collective decision. We believe that it is absolutely inappropriate to carry out construction of the nuclear power plant in Belarus while still suffering from consequences of the Chernobyl accident. The so-called “peaceful nuclear energy” is very dangerous, which is proved once again by the accident at the Japanese nuclear plant Fukushima-1.

According to Alena Miadzvedzeva, the Babruisk activists also prepare to distribute anti-nuclear informational materials.

“We are also waiting for an answer from the Babruisk Town Executive Committee to applications for the authorization of anti-nuclear pickets dedicated to an anniversary of the Chernobyl accident. The applications were filed by members of the Council, Viktar Buzinayeu from the United Civil Party and Viktar Sekerzhytski from the Belarusian Leftist Party Fair World. If the pickets are authorized, representatives of all democratic organizations of Babruisk will take part in them.”
