Siarhei Housha complains to Baranavichy prosecutor about unlawful actions of KGB officers
On 12 April the
Baranavichy human rights defender Siarhei Housha addressed the prosecutor of
the town of Baranavichy
with a complaint against unlawful actions of the local KGB.
The matter is that on 3
February, when he had been summoned to the Baranavichy Town KGB Department for
interrogation as a witness in the so-called 19 December “mass riot” criminal
case, he had asked to allow a qualified lawyer, Siarhei Piatrovich, to
represent his interests at the interrogation. However, the KGB officers
V.Tsimafeyeu and V.Halubkou refused to do it without offering any explanations.
At first Siarhei Housha filed a complaint with the head of the Baranavichy Town
KGB Department. However, the Deputy Chair of the Brest Region KGB Department
answered that no violations were found in actions of the officers as a result
of an appropriate check-up. S. Housha disagreed with this assertion and went to
the court of Baranavichy and the
Baranavichy district, which also dismissed the complaint.
