Investigator Sanko still considers meeting of Pavel Seviarynets as “inexpedient”
Investigator Ivan Sanko once again prohibited
the political prisoner Pavel Seviarynets to meet with a priest. The appropriate request was
filed on 30 March by Pavel’s mother, Tatsiana Seviarynets.
"I filed the request on the basis of Article 10, paragraph 102 of the
regulations of the KGB pre-trial prison, according to which prisoners have the
right to be visited by priests. Investigator Sanko also said that the meeting
is not feasible. He said that according to the rules, the investigation has the
right to allow such meetings, but is not obliged to do it. Earlier he said that
it was beyond his powers. Realizing that I am a little versed in the laws, said
he has a right not to authorize a meeting. I think it is as immoral mockery of all
prisoners and Pavel first of all,’ commented Mrs. Seviarynets.
"In his latter of 28 March Pavel
wrote that he maintained correspondence with the investigator concerning the
possibility to meet with the priest. On 30 March, the prosecutor Anatol Pustashyla
stated that this issue is about to be solved. And this statement of the
investigator is outrageous. It is an element of psychological pressure on Pavel
and his relatives. The rights of
prisoners remain on paper only because the investigators use a loophole in the
laws in their favor," said Tatsiana.
The woman is going to continue struggling
for the opportunity for his son to meet with the priest. The
next step in the fight may be a request to the Russian Orthodox Patriarch,
Kirill.
