National-Bolsheviks detained for protest action
On 1 April 10 participants of the action of
protest against the closure of the national hospital of the penalty execution
department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were detained.
The protesters went to the penalty execution department carrying a small cardboard
coffin, to remind the authorities what can happen to the Belarusian prisoners
if they are deprived of medical assistance.
However, not far from the building of the department ten people were detained
by policemen in civvies, put in a police bus and taken away in unknown
direction.
According to information of one of the action organizers, Dzmitry Siniak, the
number of prisoners who receive medical treatment and the medical personnel who
gives them such treatment, is being purposefully reduced, which has already
resulted in the growth of the death rate in the Belarusian prisons. A new
hospital was to have been constructed by the time of the liquidation of the old
one.
The address which was carried by the National-Bolsheviks to the penalty execution
department calls on the authorities to urgently solve the issue of rendering
medical assistance to prisoners, punish the officials who are responsible for
the construction of the new hospital, consider the question of a large-scale
amnesty and mitigate the penalties in certain articles of the criminal
legislation.
