Salihorsk: picket against picket bans
Uladzimir Shyla, democratic activist and entrepreneur
from Salihorsk has filed applications for the authorization of a number of
picket. The stated place of the actions is the Budaunik stadium – the
only place where street actions of the opposition are allowed.
The stated topics of the pickets are quite interesting: on 14 April the
applicant intends to hold a picket under the slogan “For Stability!” (one of
the popular mottoes of the Belarusian authorities), on 15 April - “For Our
President!”, and on 16 April - “No to Picket Bans!”
“The matter is that in the overwhelming majority of cases the local authorities
ban any mass actions. Frankly speaking, even now we don't have any illusions
that we will receive a permission. However, it would be interesting to see the
authorities prohibit pickets for stability and the president – it would look as
state sabotage, and the ban on a picket against picket bans can become the
apogee of absurdity,” comments Mr. Shyla. “But if a miracle happens and our
pickets is authorized, we will be very glad to express our views concerning the
stability in our country and speak of our vision of the president”.
