Houses of oppositional local council candidate Alyaksandr Zarembyuk and his parents in the town of Masty were searched.

A laptop and other things were searched. As Radio Svaboda reports, Ales Zarembyuk is to visit investigator Pavedaika in the Hrodna region KGB department on Saturday morning. He is called to the department as a suspect. A criminal case over fraud is instigated against the oppositionist. Ales Zzarembyuk runs in the Hrodna region and Masty district council elections. He is a regional coordinator of the For Freedom movement in the Hrodna region.

Searches were conducted in absence of Ales Zarembyuk, but he managed to meet the investigators at home.

“When I came home I found everything turned upside down. A laptop, flash cards, CDs were seized. The investigators threatened me to draw up a report accusing me of shouting at them. Then they tried to scare me and said we would talk in another place. One of them, Danilau, was rather rude and threatened my wife she would face problems if his name was told the press.”

Ales Zarembyuk’s wife Tatsyana, who was taken from work in the district hospital, was present at the search.

“What did I feel? Nothing. I had the most unpleasant moments at work. The hospital administration, the chief medical officer, head of the department, saw the KGB officers. They were impudent at home, forbade to use a cell phone, took video. It took a lot of time – the search started at 4 p.m. and lasted for 4–4.5 hours,” Ales Zarembyuk’s wife told.

According to the local council candidate, the KGB officers were looking for “another computer” during the search.

“Where’s the second computer?” they asked.
