Zhodzina authorities pressurize opposition candidate
The local authorities in Zhlobin press on Yauhen Basareuski, a member of the Belarusian Party of Leftists Fair World.
The politician used to occupy a high rank in the Zhlobin center of community property management and joined the opposition communists after the retirement. The brave step of the former official apparently came as an unpleasant surprise for the Zhlobin authorities. Now the economic police of the regional executive committee are looking for faults in the archives of the enterprise headed by Yauhen Basareuski to open a criminal case, Belarusian Partisan reports.
'The controlling bodies have never had claims to the enterprise. We were checked by the State Control Committee regional department, the regional procuracy and the auditing department of the Ministry of Finance. Problems began after I had joined the Fair World party,' says the candidate.
The persecuted activist said that anonymous 'friends' advised him to withdraw from the elections. 'They said if I withdrew, all problems would be solved. Nevertheless, Yauhen Basareuski is not going to withdraw from the elections. Some inferiors of Yauhen Basareuski were called in to the KGB last week.
There’s an interesting detail: the oppositionist's rival at the elections to the Homel regional council at Strashynskaya constituency #33 is Mikhail Kasiukou, Chairperson of the Zhlobin district council.
