Electricity Turned off During Protestant Assembly
At the week-end a youth conference took place at the New Life Church in Minsk. It was attended by representatives of Belarusian Evangelic churches from all over the country. Minsk authorities tried to disrupt the event. On the second day of the conference representatives of electricity services and the administration of Maskouski district police department of Minsk came there.
They tried to get into the church. When the church authorities decided not to let them in, they turned off the electricity.
Bear in mind that it is not the first such conflict. In March 2007 the authorities already turned off the electricity.
‘Despite all these obstacles and constant pressurization from the side of Ala Rabitsava, the chair of the department of national and religious affairs of Minsk city executive committee, our church continues its activity and we don’t cancel any events,’ said the church administrator Vasil Yurevich.
