Minsk city court turned down an appeal of a co-chairman of the organizing committee of the Belarusian Christian Democracy Party Aliaksei Shein against a verdict of Frunzenski district court of Minsk sentencing the activist to 15 days of jail under article 23.34 of the Adminstrative Code (violation of the order of holding mass actions or pickets).

On 23 July Aliaksei Shein and Pavel Seviarynets were detained at the Pushkinskaya tube station on suspicion in a theft from an apartment. The police searched their belongings and found 150 copies of agitation materials with information about oppositional actions dedicated to the Sovereignty Declaration Day.

During his imprisonment in the detention center of the main police department of Minsk city executive committee Aliaksei Shein appealed the verdict to Minsk city court. The activist thinks that the procedure of trial was incomplete, as the judge did not summon some of his witnesses. Minsk city court answered that Shein’s pretensions were ‘wire-drawn and groundless’ and turned down the appeal. Now the activist is going to appeal this ruling as well.
