The leader of United Civil Party Anatol Liabedzka has applied to the General prosecutor’s office of Belarus concerning his detention on 27 July, during celebration of the 17th anniversary of the State Sovereignty Declaration by the united democratic forces.

Liabedzka was detained near Minsk hotel by persons in mufti who refused to introduce themselves and explain the reasons for the detention. Then he was passed to three persons in the police uniform, who took him to Zavadski borough police department of Minsk. They also refused to introduce themselves or explain why he was detained. In three hours Liabedzka was let go. 

In his statement to the prosecutor’s office Liabedzka demands to investigate this fact, find and punish the persons who illegally detained him. Besides, he called the democratic activists who had faced with physical violence from the side of the police to apply to the prosecutor’s office and demand to punish the police for unmotivated violence and violation of the law On police. Anatol Liabedzka also called the people to file copies of their appeals to Minsk OSCE office.
