Youth Activists Ask Minsk Authorities to Authorize Picket in Support of Zmitser Dashkevich and Artur Finkevich

According to the press-secretary of Young Front Barys Haretski, the applications for pickets with the demand to release the political prisoners Zmitser Dashkevich and Artur Finkevich have been filed for 11 and 17 June. It is intended to hold the actions at Kastrychnitskaya Square of Minsk, near the House of Parliament and near the KGB office.
‘We consciously specified these very places in our applications. The matter is that these days the EU will consider the question of deprival of Belarus of trade preferences. Besides, according to our information, on 15 June the question of early release of Zmitser Dashkevich will be considered. That’s why we want to draw public attention to this case,’ stated Barys Haretski.
On 1 November Z.Dashkevich was sentenced to 1,5 years of jail for participation in adctivity on behalf of unregistered organization (article 193.1 of the Criminal Code).
On 10 May 2006 A.Finkevich was sentenced to 2 years of corrective labor for malignant hooliganism (part 2 of article 339 of the Criminal Code). Finkevich was detained on 30 January 2006 for making graffiti ‘We Want a New One!’.
