Zmitser Dashkevich Meets with His Lawyer
The administration of Shklou penal colony finally let the leader of Young Front Zmitser Dashkevich to meet with his lawyer Aliaksandr Haliyeu. The meeting took place on 1 June in presence of two workers of the penitentiary institution.
After Zmitser Dashkevich was diagnosed with osteochondrosis he has been transferred to an easier work: now he loads boards instead of sawing the wood. At present he has 5 reprimands, which can be abolished by the colony administration if they decide to do it. Besides, by 15 June Dashkevich will have served a half of his term, as a result of which he can be granted parole.
When the lawyer told him about the verdict to the Young Front activists, Zmitser said: ‘Would the verdict have been harder, I was to have started a hunger-strike’.
Recently Mr. Dashkevich recived about a hundred of paper cranes, as a result of an action in his support, organized by Amnesty International. All the cranes were unfolded by the guards, as the censorship demands. Besides, it was allowed to pass to Dashkevich the analytical review ‘Human Rights Violations in Belarus. 2006’ which has been recently published.
Bear in mind, that Zmitser Dashkevich was sentenced to 1,5 years of jail for participation in the unregistered organization Young Front. International and Belarusian human rights organization demand his release and Amnesty International declared him a prisoner of conscience.
