Mahiliou Democrats Appeal Actions of Deputy Chair of Mahiliou City Executive Committee

Leninski borough court of Mahiliou has accepted for consideration the collective complaint of a group of public activists against the actions of the deputy chair of Mahiliou CEC Fiodar Mikheienka, who signed the refusal to authorize the oppositional action on 25 March in Mahiliou.

The applicants appeal the legality of the official’s refusal. They state that the reasons for which it was issued don’t correspond to common sense and can’t stand a juridical expertise. For instance, they disagree that Mr. Mikheienka could have such reasons to formulate the reasons for the refusal as ‘to prevent social conflicts’ and that the anniversary of the declaration of the Belarusian People’s Republic ‘does not belong to the state holidays and memorable dates of the Republic of Belarus’.

On the other hand, the democrats think there’s little hope of winning the trial, as Belarus still has no independent court system.
