The leader of the democratic forces of Belarus Aliaksandr Milinkevich proposed to the chair of Belarusian National TV and Radio Company Aliaksandr Zimouski to discuss the necessary measures for development of the activity of the state organs responsible for overcoming of the consequences of the accident at Chernobyl nuclear power plant in a live broadcast on 25 April.
‘In connection with an anniversary of the tragedy at Chernobyl nuclear power plant I ask you to give me the possibility to speak together with the experts and liquidators of the consequences of the tragedy, in the air of the first channel of Belarusian TV at 6 p.m. on 25 April 2007’, wrote Mr. Milinkevich in his application.
He also stated that the discussion of the consequences of Chernobyl accident is necessary as there are serious grounds to think that:
- the authorities hush up the problems the liquidators of the consequences of Chernobyl tragedy, the people who live on the polluted territories and all citizens of Belarus who consume the foodstuffs produced on the polluted lands face with;
- the social and economical policy of the Belarusian authorities leads nowhere, which doesn’t let effectively solve the problems and receive a sufficient international support for minimization of the accident’s consequences.
According to article 10 of the law On applications of citizens an answer to Milinkevich’s applications is to be given without 15-days’ term, as the question that was put in it doesn’t demand an additional study and audit.
